MINDFULNESS CONSULTANT - Dr Lisa Pizaro

Lisa is a university lecturer in Australia and overseas. Her background includes teaching meditation and mindfulness in community, education and corporate settings. Her passion to understand the mind led her to research Eastern philosophy and meditation in Japan, Korea and South East Asia. She saw connections between Asian wisdom and the Andean philosophy she encountered while living in South America. As both of these philosophic strands were evident in the self-discovery practices of the Wellbeing movement she explored this insight in a Masters thesis at Melbourne University and undertook further research in Creativity, Communication and Culture in her PhD at VU. Recently she has been researching neuroscience and creativity, and writing professionally.

She is dedicated to meditation and has over two decades of practice, with a diploma of meditation teaching from Gita International. This year she joined the respected Mindfulness team at Monash University teaching Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction in the Health Enhancement Program designed for medical students.

She is an author, a contributor to prestigious journals, and presents at conferences internationally including the Women’s World Congress.

Lisa commenced Tai Chi and Qigong training with Shifu Tara Brayshaw in 2013 and was impressed by the mind-body emphasis in the practice. A moving meditation; Tai Chi and Qigong provided a method to stretch out and recharge physically after a long day living in her head!

Dr Pizaro has said of the JinLi Meditation Program "Our aim is to explore the brain and consciousness to more fully understand ourselves. We can pay attention to what is going on within and around us instead of operating on auto-pilot. Attentive breathing and body scan techniques also aim to sharpen body awareness and strengthen the mind-body connection. We can reduce stress, unlock creativity and boost performance.”

The techniques taught have been proven by Neuroscience to increase beneficial brain activity and diminish the stress response leading to increased happiness. Mindfulness has a fundamental connection to Tai Chi, where the control of breath and awareness of energy empowers the practice and the practitioner. Mindfulness meditation brings people into contact with their potential and helps discover and define their purpose in life. Meditation practitioners develop empathy, show greater compassion, and communicate more thoughtfully. The health benefits have been rigorously assessed and proven by science and long been indicated in the testimonials of participants.

We know you will find Lisa an engaging and generous teacher.
